Vonones 2.Becomes King Of Parthia
Goodarz 2 was the 20th Parthian king who reigned from 40 A.D. for eleven years. After the death of his father King Artabanus 2, Goodarz had to fight the first five years of his reign with his brother Vardanes who had also issued coins of his own. They fought indecisive battles several times and it seems that they finally came to a peace term agreement. When Vardanes was assassinated in 47, Gotarzes proclaimed king of the whole Parthian Empire.
The Roman emperor Claudius sent an army headed by Prince Mehrdad, who crossed the Euphrates in 49, but was defeated and taken prisoner by Goodarz 2.
After Goodarz 2 died from a mysterious illness on Sep, 12, 51 A.D., his brother Vonones 2 who was the governor of Media ascended the throne. He died after a few months. He was succeeded by his son Balash who was appointed king by Mehestan.
Vonones 2 had four other influential sons who held the thrones of Parthia and Armenia, namely; Pacorus 2 (king of Media Atropatene), Osroes I, Mehrdad 4 and Tirdad (King of Armenia). (Updated: Jul, 15, 2010)
